    An excellent career opportunity exists in our Equipment Breakdown for a Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant in our downtown Toronto location. In this position, you will play a meaningful role in supporting our Underwriting teams that are driven every single day to think bigger, do better for our customers, and achieve desired results.

    Your role is to learn, grow and develop as a valued and engaged member of the team while working toward an underwriting career path. In this role, you will support and provide assistance to the underwriters having a big impact on organizing and administrating underwriting policies and procedures when analyzing, selecting and processing risk. As part of a highly engaged underwriting services team, you will execute timely and impactful solutions that improve workflows with efficiency and accuracy while supporting underwriters to realize an underwriting profit while minimizing underwriting expenses supporting overall underwriting profitability. You will be counted on to support underwriting in timely and accurate processing of commercial policies and processing underwriting transactions within assigned authority for new and renewal business. Engaging in effective cross team interactions, you are financially literate and an effective communicator who complies with corporate governance and is proficient in supporting broker relations and assisting underwriters in reconciliation of simple and complex broker billing financial discrepancies.

    This will be a hybrid role reporting two days in office and three days remote work in the Toronto, First Canadian Place location.

    What you’ll do

    • Working both collaboratively and autonomously while ensuring deadlines are met as part of a remote team is critical to the success of this role.
    • Triaging, logging and clearing large commercial submissions in collaboration with underwriters, processing declinatures, preparation of risk analysis reports including cross border documents and completing electronic filing of underwriting documents.
    • Searching for information relevant to the underwriting function and providing letters of experience, insurance binders and other documents as required for underwriting and broker partners within delegated authority on behalf of the underwriter.
    • Applying judgement, generate and review select underwriting reports and take required action based on authority.
    • Responding and answering internal, external and broker service requests professionally and promptly including following up on information needed from brokers on behalf of underwriting.
    • Data entry in RTM and SFDC systems while updating automated and manual tracking documents.
    • Collaborating with internal Aviva/GCS stakeholders, automated and manual issuance of policy documents in both English and French.
    • Timely reconciliation of financial discrepancies working collaboratively and effectively with Aviva/GCS Stakeholders.
    • Review account information, communicate changes with accounts and confirm policy information accurately and timely.
    • Produce reports, information summaries and special projects as required.

    What you’ll bring

    • Post-secondary education including degree/diploma and/or accreditation complimented by relevant office experience is required.
    • Ideal candidate has 2+ years’ commercial insurance experience in an administrative and support function with strong attention to detail and accuracy while executing above average time management skills in an underwriting environment.
    • Reporting to the Manager, you will need to be confident and comfortable to manage a healthy level of autonomy while being accountable to various teams for the responsibilities of your role.
    • Excellent technical aptitude with web and DOS based systems and databases; very strong proficiency and working knowledge of MS Teams, Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Outlook and OneNote is a must.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the capability to communicate at all levels (with internal and external partners) is meaningful to the role.
    • Excellent articulation via phone, email, and in a virtual and in person meeting setting in both French and English is an asset.
    • Superior organization and time-management skills and able to manage workflow efficiently and accurately without constant supervision.
    • Ability to be both adaptable, flexible and able to prioritize and re-prioritize work as needed while thriving in a high volume, fast paced environment is critical for success in this role.
