We currently have an opening in our Construction Insurance (COINS) Underwriting Department in our Ottawa office for an Underwriter.

The Underwriter will join our team of 18 colleagues in our dynamic COINS Underwriting Department, where we underwrite a combination of environmental, construction, and harder to place liability risks.

We will count on you to:
- Review and analyze environmental insurance and construction insurance submissions
- Identify and obtain additional information required to conduct a proper analysis of risk including cross-referencing with other departments
- Assess exposure and determine rates, terms and conditions of coverage in accordance with underwriting guidelines
- Negotiate terms and conditions with registered insurance brokers across Canada
- Authorize transmittal of documents to brokers and markets as required
- Prepare and maintain periodic reports pertinent to the ongoing operation
- Service current accounts
- Provide advice and expertise to other underwriters on underwriting issues
- Develop and maintain an awareness of claims and exposures
- Maintain an awareness of market conditions and competitions
- Perform other related duties as required
What you need to have:
- English and French is mandatory (written and oral)
- Post-secondary education in insurance, environmental studies, marketing, business administration or related discipline. Alternatively, experience in construction or environmental sectors are considered assets
- Preferably 1-2 years work experience in the insurance industry
- Outstanding customer service and negotiation skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Analytical, logical, organized and decisive
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively function in a team environment
- Computer literate in Word, Excel and Outlook
