Position Details
Reporting to the Manager, Casualty, Commercial Auto & CGL, the Senior Technical Specialist is responsible for oversight and handling of automobile, long haul trucking, and bodily injury claims. The claims are of varying complexity and the successful candidate will have a dynamic personality and the ability to excel in a high-performance environment. They will ensure claims are properly investigated, evaluated, and resolved in a timely manner.
What You Will Do
- Provide oversight of external adjusters on outsourced claims
- Investigate, evaluate, negotiate personal/commercial lines claims of moderate to high complexity
- Manage challenging coverage claims with tact and professionalism
- Timely, accurate reserving in line with corporate protocols and guidelines
- Maintain control over expenses through pro-active handling techniques
- Direct vendor partners as necessary
- Conduct technical audits to monitor quality, activity, reserving and expenses
- Obtain approval from Manager on claims above authority
- Provide high quality customer experience to all stakeholders
- Collaborate effectively with peers/other departments
- Remain up to date on industry trends and case law
- Manage claims in litigation, participate in mediations, pre-trials, and settlement conferences
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Manager
Who You Are
- Post-secondary education or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 7 years of automobile, long haul trucking, cargo and bodily injury
- CIP or working towards designation
- Strong understanding of Ontario Auto Legislation and insurance contracts in various jurisdictions
- Knowledge of principles and practices of claims settlement, policy wording, fraud investigations and coverage issues
- Good time management skills
- Ability to collaborate in a team environment; prioritize and multi-task
- Ability to cross-reference information with attention to detail
- Adaptability and willingness to learn
- Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Strong general computer knowledge required
