    What you will do

    As Senior Analyst of the Toronto Regional Office (TRO) team in the Bank of Canada’s Financial Markets Department (FMD), you work in close collaboration with other teams in FMD located in Ottawa, Montreal and Calgary. Under the supervision of the Director, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders in the Toronto financial community. You will convey the Bank’s key policy messages to these stakeholders and gather their points of view to help shape the Department’s monetary policy, financial stability, and fiscal agent policy advice. Working independently, you will conduct analysis related to the mandate of the Team and Department. This includes working with internal and external partners. As a member of TRO, you are also responsible for supporting the Bank of Canada’s externally facing financial market related committees, such as the Canadian Fixed Income Forum and the Canadian Foreign Exchange Committee. This function includes liaising closely with Committee Chairs and with internal and external Committee members, as well as with other FMD teams in planning and delivering the committees’ work.

    In addition, you will:

    • assess the expectations of financial market participants about the evolution of the economy and monetary policy
    • keep abreast of public policies, investment and risk management trends, and other financial innovations, assess their potential impact on the functioning and stability of the financial system, and take them into account when suggesting analytical themes or projects that may be of interest to the Bank, as needed
    • lead or participate in various financial market analytical projects, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and provide strategic guidance related to the Team’s mandate, as needed
    • support financial markets committees, which includes coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to prepare and draft meeting minutes, documents and presentations for publication
    • aid the Director in their supporting role of senior management’s outreach and communication efforts in Toronto

    What you need to succeed

    You are a thought leader with respect to financial markets, who possesses a good understanding of issues pertaining to monetary policy, financial stability, financial markets and public policy and who can suggest innovative projects, provide insightful feedback on the work of your teammates and develop the team’s work plan. You are flexible and able to adapt to changing environment and priorities and have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

    You have experience:

    • developing and maintaining harmonious relationships with a wide range of business contacts, including financial market participants and have a proven ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently, and to build supportive working relationships with internal and external parties
    • synthetizing information and providing quality analyses while taking into account many factors and perspectives and to relate them to issues of particular interest to the Bank
    • with a proven ability to communicate clearly and adapt your communication style (both written and oral) for a wide range of audiences, including senior management and external stakeholders.

    Nice-to-have

    • Experience working for a large financial market participant (e.g., a bank, a broker-dealer or a fund manager)
    • Experience contributing to policy analysis at a central bank or other organization responsible for the regulation or oversight of Canadian financial markets or financial market participants
    • CFA Charterholder

    Your education and experience

    This position requires a Master’s degree in economics or finance with a minimum of three years of recent relevant work experience in economics and finance or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

    • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $98,490 to $123,115 (job grade 17)
    • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at 7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers performance pay for those who exceed expectations (15% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
