Officer position responsible for providing leadership, with core accountability to identify and develop strategies and create opportunities to accelerate profitable growth and deepen strategic partnerships with distribution partners in the region. Responsible for driving underwriting excellence through management direction for regional Commercial Mid-Market and working with Line of Business leaders to help deliver on the region’s strategic and operational goals in creative ways, while fostering a high performance culture. Reviews and oversees the implementation of regional branch risk management policies and procedures and manages relationship with local regulators.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
- Coach, develop and enable regional underwriting teams to achieve targets through profitable growth and establish deep relationships with our distribution partners
- Drives implementation of strategic and operational objectives with significant impact on the short and long-term success of the region.
- Achieves profitability and growth plans by balancing priorities and resources across region, branch and commercial business units, driving talent pipeline initiatives in collaboration with Line of Business Leaders.
- Identifies opportunities for growth within product lines and developing new contacts to drive business through regional underwriters.
- Establish and lead broker planning and execution for the region providing regular updates to Senior Leadership, resolving any issues and working in collaboration with the Marketing & Distribution team.
- Evaluates distribution partners and regional performance based on financial analysis. Includes rate, reserve adequacy, operational, planning and product reviews
- Drives discussion and decision-making among Canadian Branch Head Office Senior Management to support regional priorities, account management discipline and sales disciplines.
- In collaboration with Line of Business Leaders, drives enterprise agenda to increase portfolio diversification and profitability
- Drives awareness and collaboration on strategy or appetite changes and enhancements.
- Ensures consistent application of performance measures for region and accountable for regional production as per budgets and objectives.
- Host regional events, speak at public seminars and forums, act as corporate ambassador representing the company in official capacity at regional events
- Host sales and marketing calls within the region on a regular basis ensuring that teams are engaged, on track, motivated and productive
- Conducts research, analysis and development of insurance products and regional strategies.
- May participate in rating bureau boards to keep abreast of industry, rating, coverage and benefit issues.
- Fosters relationships with insurance regulators and trade associations.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with Master’s preferred in a related discipline, or equivalent.
- Typically a minimum of 15 years of related work experience, with 10 years management experience.
- Applicable certifications preferred.
