    Reporting to the Sr. Leader, Canada Benefits Strategy & Services, the Leave Specialist contributes to centralizing leaves through active management and coaching. The incumbent provides expert advice and support to HRBP’s, leaders and employees on the administration of leaves and return to work. Incumbent will assess and case manage straight forward and complex leaves, short-term and long-term disability claims with carrier. This position participates in the development and implementation of the leave process in alignment to legislative standards and carrier provisions.

    Skills:

    Thorough knowledge of legislation and principles pertaining to disability management, return to work and accommodation with relevant federal and provincial legislation.

    Ability to explain and apply corporate policy, procedures, and provisions effectively.

    Effective case management skills requiring active involvement and advanced strategies for managing complex cases.

    Effective verbal and written communications and presentation skills

    Attention to detail, excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills

    Proven ability to manage time in a deadline-oriented environment

    Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including exercising tact, diplomacy and sensitivity when dealing with employees, leaders and external stakeholders

    Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team, as well as independently with minimal supervision

    Excellent computer and information technology skills, including MS office applications and claims management software

    Education and Experience

    Community College Diploma Human Resources or related field

    Minimum two (2) year disability management experience and specifically in facilitating return to work programs in occupational and non-occupational disability.

    Thorough knowledge of legislation and principles pertaining to disability management, return to work and accommodation with relevant federal and provincial legislation

    Advanced computer skills with knowledge and experience in software MS applications such as Word and Excel

    Familiarity with Workday software an asset

    Excellent interpersonal abilities in working with sensitive situations.

    Effective written and verbal communication skills

    Demonstrated ability to deal with constant demands, deadlines and interruptions
