With offices across 5 provinces in Canada, our client offers various services to it’s customer base including, but not limited to Personal Insurance, Commercial Insurance, Life Insurance, Asset Management, Actuarial Consulting, and more.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Working in a team of intermediate commercial underwriters you will be a key player when it comes to assessing and analyzing commercial insurance applications to determine the risk associated with insuring particular businesses or organizations. You will work closely with broker partners to ensure that policies are written in accordance with underwriting guidelines and company policies.

ABOUT THE ROLE

• Quote, negotiate, and authorize acceptance of new business, renewals, and endorsements
• Make risk selection decisions within an assigned authority level while working accordance with company-established underwriting guidelines
• Work with an assigned group of broker partners in accordance with regional commercial business plan for profitability, growth, retention and service standards
• Visit broker partners who represent the company in order to promote and present the company’s commercial products, promote profitable growth and retention
• Provide technical training, coaching, and development support where appropriate
• Other Ad hoc duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

• At least 5 years’ progressive mid-market commercial underwriting experience
• CIP designation (or enrolment); Post-secondary degree

Ability to select, underwrite, and manage commercial accounts * Solid knowledge of commercial lines underwriting techniques, guidelines, forms, coverages, and rates

• Knowledge of broker and company relationships while applying this knowledge to underwriting of an account
• Exceptional rapport-building and relationship management skills
• Strong planning and decision making skills
• High attention to detail, organizational, and prioritization skills

COMPENSATION

• $65,000 to $72,000 annual salary based on experience
