Job description: About The Role:

We are seeking an effective manager with broad experience and established broker connections in the Canadian Executive Liability market.

By leveraging your strong management skills, you will effectively oversee an established portfolio of business and a growing team of underwriters. Together, with your team, you will steer the portfolio profitably, seek opportunities for growth and expansion, and continue to broaden our product offering.

Utilizing your broad network of relationships at key brokerage houses, your extensive knowledge of the Canadian commercial lines marketplace, and your strong technical underwriting expertise in the upper middle market and large corporate Executive Risk liability segments, you will have a key role in the successful execution and continued development of our strategic plan for Executive Risks in Canada. As the Executive Risks Leader in Canada, you have a penchant for being out in the market, developing a robust pipeline of profitable new business opportunities; as well as collaborating with, coaching, and mentoring your individual direct reports.

Your key responsibilities will be:

Underwriting and Portfolio Management

• Steering our Canada Executive Risks portfolio through active management of the existing business, while strategically engaging the Canadian market for quality new business opportunities.
• Work actively with Head FinPro & Casualty on communications to key internal stakeholders.
• Analyzing risk and coverage exposures. Preparing deal structures that are in line with internal guidelines and company appetite.
• Working closely with both the local CorSo team and resources elsewhere in the Group (Products/Risk Engineering /Claims Management/Actuaries) as appropriate.
• Close collaboration with the North American and Global underwriting teams to maintain consistency and to leverage existing institutional knowledge and infrastructure.

Business Development

• In collaboration with local Underwriting colleagues and the Executive Risks underwriting team, you will develop and maintain a robust pipeline of new business opportunities in the Canadian market.
• Support multi-line Canada sales planning and execution with the local Customer & Distribution team.
• Furthermore, you may contribute to project work, work in international deal teams and accept special assignments, as required.

External Representation

• Represent Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Canada via regular contact with brokers and clients involving our Executive Risks line of business.
• Attend Company and key Industry organized events as appropriate (i.e. CRIMS, PLUS, etc.)

Product Research, Development & Innovation

• Assist the development of new product opportunities.
• Assist in the adjustment of current products to meet the needs of the Canadian market.

Other

• Providing input into planning and controlling functions.
• Contributing to the operational needs of the team.

About You:

Educational background

• University degree or equivalent.

Professional experience

• Minimum of 7 years of underwriting experience in Executive Risk product lines, familiarity with other FinPro product lines (Previous management experience would be a strong asset)
• Strong knowledge of local market, with established network of brokers & clients
• Customer focus, service orientation mindset
• High level of self-motivation and ability to work independently
• Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability and willingness to take the initiative in a team oriented environment
• Strong computer skills and knowledge of software applications
• Position requires a willingness to travel

Language

• English (fluency in French would be an asset).

About the Team:

This position is part of the FinPro & Casualty team in Canada, reporting directly to the Head of FinPro & Casualty, who in turn reports to the Canadian Corporate Solutions CEO. The Executive Risks underwriting team consists of 3 full-time underwriters and a Graduate Student. Overall, the FinPro & Casualty divisions at Corporate Solutions Canada consists of 17 team members, including 3 portfolio leaders.
