Job description: Overview
As the Assistant Underwriter, you will respond to internal and external enquiries, process transactions to meet customer needs, provide underwriting support and analysis, and review policies to determine if coverage exists for claims.
Responsibilities
- Assess and evaluate existing SRE policies to ensure that the risk meets the corporate underwriting standards. When standards are not met, apply appropriate underwriting action.
- Review policies to ensure requests meet the corporate underwriting standards. When standards are not met, apply appropriate underwriting action.
- Amend policies to reflect requested/accepted changes to existing coverage.
- Make decisions and process all forms of policy endorsements, cancellation and reinstatement requests for non-complex scheduled policies.
- Respond to enquiries from brokers, adjusters, internal accounting departments, Motor Carrier Division – Safety Program, other MPI staff and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
- Confirm coverage for claims on all types of policies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- C11 Principles and Practice of Insurance course from the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) program, General Insurance Essentials Certificate or Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) designation.
- Two years of related office or customer service experience.
- Experience in the insurance industry is an asset.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Oral and written communication skills with the ability to present information effectively to various audiences.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and to exercise good judgment.
