    YOUR FAVOURITE THING TO drive

    IS A big idea.

    Posted: 2023-10-12

    Closing: When Filled

    Location: Edmonton South (Hybrid)

It’s true, you’ve been called a policy wonk a time or two, but you wear it as a badge of honour. We’re wanting you to contribute to AMA’s ongoing leadership as a traffic safety and crime prevention advocate, and a trusted, objective voice in public policy conversations with government and our key stakeholders. Whether it’s our community programming or government relations work, or supporting the work of our regulated businesses, you’ll have a hand in advancing key priorities and projects.

You love learning new things and you’ve got your fingers on the pulse for emerging issues. You’re all about diving into the details, and understanding how an issue could impact our members or our organization—and then you know how to take action, working to shape our province and improve our members’ lives. It’s a big calling, but you get that—you know that AMA’s leadership in advocacy on issues that matter most to our members is critical to our ongoing relevance in these important conversations. If this sounds like something you want to be a part of, we want to hear from you!

    WHAT MOVES YOU

    • You’re a big picture thinker who knows how to evaluate information for impact and relevance, and bring forward actions and opportunities that are easily understood by leadership. And then you take these ideas and make them a reality—sometimes against tight deadlines.
    • Your friends think you’re Barack Obama for your ability to analyze an issue and mobilize a community. Your ability to synthesize complex issues and see opportunities is complemented by strong communication and organizational skills.
    • You’re a flexible team player who excels in a fast-paced environment and thrives on challenge.
    • You excel under pressure—in fact, you pride yourself on staying cool and calm even during a challenge, and you don’t get discouraged if there’s a stumble along the way because you know it’s the long game that counts.
    • You can sometimes be a policy wonk and love building and sharing knowledge about new things—we find this really endearing, by the way, because we know that’s just the start of turning a good idea into action.
    • You’re a quick study and a smart cookie. And you love galvanizing others around a project or an idea.
    • You’re an amazing communicator with a knack for getting your messages heard.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

    • Report to the Manager, Advocacy, and play an integral role on our Advocacy & Operations team.
    • You’ll stay on top of research and analysis and other emerging trends in areas relevant to AMA for the development and enhancement of our advocacy work to ensure we continue to lead and be a respected, objective, and honest broker in discussions and decisions with governments and other key stakeholders.
    • Governments, business partners, and community organizations—and our members—expect us to bring our A-game, so you take your work to the next level by supporting the strategic planning and coordination of AMA’s advocacy priorities, identifying critical current and emerging topics of interest, all towards ensuring that we remain a relevant and trusted voice in public policy discussions in traffic safety, personal mobility, community safety and security and other relevant topics, including registries, insurance, environmental stewardship, and crime prevention.
    • You’ll support our strategic relationships, ensuring that we remain a strong influencer of policies and programs that are important to AMA and our members by participating on external committees and working groups, as needed, representing AMA’s position.
    • You’ll deliver upon the organizational TYLF (Treat You Like Family & Friends) culture to ensure that the Association’s policies, research analysis, and advocacy programs and initiatives live up to our brand promise by identifying critical issues of importance to members and helping them live their lives with confidence, and providing an open, welcoming, and inclusive approach.

    WHAT YOU’VE DONE

    • You probably have a post-secondary degree or diploma in the arts, criminology, or the social sciences. Have a degree in something else, or no degree at all? We’d love to hear how you can use your experience and skills in this role.
    • You already have at least two to five years of relevant experience. Think you have transferable skills? Tell us how they’ll help you in advancing our advocacy priorities.
    • You’re familiar to working within the areas of transportation, traffic safety, government, municipal planning, and/or community safety and security.
    • Being comfortable working with a variety of stakeholder groups and/or experience in public affairs is considered an asset.

    WHAT YOU’LL GET

    • Competitive salary.
    • Flexible benefits.
    • Outstanding employer-paid Defined Benefit Pension Plan.
    • Great AMA discounts.
    • Reserved paid learning time.
    • Paid vacation and floater day.
    • Paid opportunities to serve your community through purpose-driven AMA events.
    • This role is eligible for hybrid work-from-home and work-from-office options.

We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
