    Accountant

    Job title: Accountant

    Job description: This position will be involved in and assist with various accounting and operational activities including those outlined below:

    • Accounting/Operations
    • Processing of cash receipts (EFTs, lockbox) to appropriate brokers
    • Review aging report on a weekly and follow up on aged items as well communicate top brokers of interest to leadership team
    • Review and process unreconciled cash and/or discrepancies on accounts, invoices, statements by working with brokers and production team
    • Review and distribute broker statements
    • Investigating/ responding to internal/ external client queries I
    • Accounts Receivable
    • Assist with and organize electronic communication (general mailbox)
    • Seeking out and following up on missing documentation/information
    • Ensuring accounting records are complete/accurate
    • Processing of supplier payables
    • Assist with client money reconciliations
    • Assist with claims related payments/processing
    • Other accounting/operations tasks as required
    • Participate in process improvement initiatives and other projects as assigned
    • Financial Reporting
    • Recording financial transactions (general ledger/journal entries)
    • Assist with preparation of accounting estimates, accruals, etc.
    • Assist with bank reconciliations
    • Assist with monthly and year-end financial reporting, audits
    • Assist with preparation/reporting of monthly financial/production metrics
    • In addition to the above, this role we interact with the H.W. Kaufman Corporate Accounting team and the Burns & Wilcox Canada and Burns & Wilcox Canada Claims management and operating teams to assist in researching and resolving various accounting/operational matters
    • The position will be based in the Toronto, Ontario office of Burns & Wilcox Canada
    • The individual will report to the onsite Accounting manager and will work closely with accounting team members in the U.S. and Canada

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or diploma/certificate in accounting
    • Accounting experience in insurance industry preferred
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel in particular (pivot tables, macros)
    • Ability to work independently yet team-oriented
    • Ability to work accurately yet efficiently
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Working knowledge of Canadian GAAP and IFRS preferred
    • TPA and claims handling experience an asset
    • Working knowledge of accounting systems preferred
    • Working knowledge of policy management systems preferred
