    About the role

    We are seeking a Managing Director, Western Canada, who can align and influence internal and external stakeholders, is an effective communicator, can build commitment, and can actively lead through ambiguity. Key attributes for the role include high energy, collaboration, strong influential skills, presence, vision, broad insurance knowledge, and willingness to travel regularly within the region.

    This role will be based in Vancouver office.

    What you need to know:

    • Partner closely with senior management, regional leadership, national product and claims leadership, communications & marketing and other functional groups to execute and implement the regional distribution and profit center strategies.
    • Responsible for production in the region, including new business, retention and driving growth in targeted products and customer segments.
    • Manage all broker relationships within the region, inclusive of production results (new and renewal) as well as specific broker initiatives. Work with both distribution and product to ensure strategies with retail brokers are executed effectively and consistently throughout the region.
    • Drive a culture of qualifying and cross selling between lines of business to greater insure target submission flow for both the major and corporate account segments
    • Develop relationships with the top tier clients in the region and work closely with the client engagement teams to produce high retention and new business results.
    • Strategically plan and facilitate senior management visibility in the region.
    • Lead a “One AIG” culture within the region across all AIG colleagues. Identify internal talent and collaborate with managers in the region to ensure that appropriate career development plans are established and thoughtfully executed.
    • Establish presence as the “face” of AIG within the region.
    • Responsible for market and competitor Intelligence – understand the marketplace and communicate to the regional product and distribution team and home office as necessary.
    • Oversight of an office staff, as well direct day-to-day business exposure to underwriters.

    What we’re looking for:

    • Minimum of 10+ years of diverse insurance experience preferred. Ability to learn a full suite of AIG product offerings.
    • A proven business development background in insurance with existing broker relationships in the region. Underwriting experience is a plus.
    • Strong leadership skills. Ability to lead multi-disciplined teams, mentoring and attracting/developing talent. Experience directly managing and leading a team is strongly preferred.
    • Account Management skills and experience in successfully building trusting relationships with colleagues, insureds, and brokers.
    • Ability to build and execute against a strategic business plan.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to effectively present to both small and large groups.
    • Must be able to multitask, have excellent organizational skills, and be passionate about problem solving.
    • Bachelor’s degree in business or another related field preferred.
