Underwriter – Developer Surety
Our partner is an independently owned, Canadian MGA, providing risk insurance and surety products. They are looking for a senior underwriter to share their mission of delivering exceptional service.
Role
As a crucial member of the underwriting team, you will be responsible for maintaining high levels of service with solutions-oriented approach, and identifying opportunities to upsell products. You will be contributing to the expansion of our partner’s brand, and grow the business with existing and new broker partners.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain a network of relationships with brokers and various markets
- Serve as key contact on assigned portfolio of accounts
- Qualify customers’ financial, technical, and organizational capacity within our partner’s appetite against the business opportunity, in accordance with department policies and procedures
- Produce and underwrite new and existing contract surety business
- Provide detailed recommendations of bond and account support by conducting financial and credit analysis
- Make decisions and approve bonds within account or underwriting authority
- Negotiate account and/or bond-specific terms and conditions
- Monitor current portfolio and assist with peer audits on an ongoing basis to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines
- Stay up to date with industry and market trends
- Participate in team meetings to provide updates related to assigned portfolio of accounts, brokers, market intelligence, etc.
Requirements
- 4 years of underwriting experience
- University degree/college diploma or equivalent experience
- High level of customer service and proven success in building and maintaining effective business relationships
- Ability to analyze and evaluate contract language
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong time management and organizational skills
