    About the role

    We currently have an opportunity available for a Unit Manager position for our First Party Auto and Accident Benefits team. This is a newly created division, with direct reports of 5-8 people and the team focuses on managing first party physical damage claims for our commercial clients, and Accident Benefits and Loss transfer claims.

    This position is located in our Toronto office and reports to the Head of Claims.

    What you need to know:

    • Drive alignment across the team and work in collaboration with all claims leaders in ensuring our strategic priorities (customer service, business alignment, improvements in total cost of claim and retaining our talent) are front and center, along with AIG’s purpose and values.
    • Manage and provide technical assistance to a team of claims analysts in Montreal and Toronto handling first party physical damage claims, loss transfer and accident benefits claims. The team ranges from junior to very senior staff handling complex matters.
    • Assign or assist in assigning new claims according to claim complexity to the Canadian team, and support claims operations to address any issues or concerns.
    • Review and approve coverage position letters and oversee any contentious matters or large losses.
    • Ensure the team’s strict adherence to Litigation Guidelines/control of legal expenses and timely reserves
    • Review of large losses to provide reserve and settlement authority within authority; escalate and round table all files above authority.
    • Ensure file quality and best practices application through monthly audits and address any issues through employee coaching/training to minimize departmental leakage.
    • Ensure that broker/customer needs are met, manage expectations, and ensure satisfaction
    • Maintain broker and customer relationship and implement claims processes/protocols specific to their needs
    • Work in alignment with our underwriting and actuarial departments by providing claim trends, large loss reports and assist in the retention and acquisition of insureds
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization
    • Complete mid-year reviews and performance reviews
    • Build development plan for all analysts within the group and provide opportunities for development
    • Manage team consistently through weekly 1×1’s, monthly team meetings, team engagement activities and encourage the team’s participation in ERG’s, social activities, volunteer activities and other opportunities to get to know the broader organization.
    • Promote a culture of integrity and risk management within the team

    What we’re looking for:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in auto claims, including litigation management and catastrophic accident benefits claims.
    • Prior leadership experience/ mentoring an asset.
    • Ability to work independently and think strategically.
    • Strong customer service orientation and people skills
    • Strong decision making-skills
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
    • Superior analytical skills
    • Ability to multi-task and work effectively and cooperatively in a fast-paced busy team environment
    • Ability to manage workload effectively and efficiently/ability to prioritize is essential.
    • Proficient computer skills in a busy paperless environment
