We are looking for a Client Executive to join our Surety team in our Haywards Heath office. This is a fantastic opportunity to begin or progress your career in a specialised area of the insurance sector.
Ideally you will already have some experience of working with corporate entities at a C suite level and have some experience in the financial or legal sectors and be able to read, understand and interpret financial statements.
The successful candidate will work with the UK Surety team in the placement and management of Surety bond facilities and the administration of surety bonds for existing clients. Over time, the successful candidate with be expected to develop and manage their own surety client book with a clear sales focus to secure new clients.
What is Surety?
Surety is highly specialised area of the insurance market providing protection against default by a corporate of its financial and/or performance related obligations. Surety bond facilities are generally managed at a senior level within a corporates’ Treasury / Finance team (i.e. Group Treasurer or CFO) and can form an integral part of their working capital and financing facilities.

- Marsh Surety is a market leading specialty business with more than 320 employees globally (11 in the UK with offices located in London and Haywards Heath)
- We service and handle all aspects of the Surety broking process for a wide range of large clients including but not limited to Construction, Energy, Defence, Transportation, Technology and Retail within the UK.
- We are seeking an individual in the early stages of their financial services career or graduates with a keen interest in finance.

We will rely on you to:
- Be the centre of our day to day business planning including the management of complex WIP lists
- Management and organisation of policy processing but not the processing itself
- General servicing of the account and managing workflows to ensure tracking of projects and deadlines are being achieved.
- Ensuring client needs are identified and met in line with agreed service standards.
- Pre-underwrite surety risks and broke the risk to suitable surety providers.
- Review, understand and be able to suggest appropriate amendments to legal documents such as bond wordings, indemnity agreements, contracts and other agreements.
- Building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and liaise effectively with clients and underwriters.
- Gather relevant and sufficient information both financial and other, to assess financial strength of existing and potential clients and be able to present the information to surety underwriters
- Assist in all aspects of Bond Facility Management, including new bond requests, renewals and day to day client requests and enquires;
- Collate information and assist the relevant Client Executive in preparing underwriting submissions, client reports and presentations;
- Liaise with the bond administration team for bond wording advice, new bond requests, premium billing, and collection;
- Ensure Bond facility records are kept up to date on bespoke surety database;
- Organise client and underwriting meetings as requested;
- Assist in understanding the Client’s business, business issues, and identifying a client’s Surety capacity requirements, both day to day and project specific;
- Contribute towards new business initiatives including proactive targeting of prospects across multiple industries;
- Liaise with the various divisions within Marsh and the wider Marsh McLennan to develop new Surety opportunities;
- Undertake specified tasks as directed by management adhering to agreed timescales.
What you need to have:
- Graduate with minimum 2:1 in ideally a finance or legal or business related degree course
- Excellent Communication skills, both written and verbal
- Intermediate knowledge and ability in respect of analytical thinking, judgment and decision making
- Presentable individual who is able to build effective relationships at all levels, both internally & externally
- Good analytical skills
- IT literate, demonstrating intermediate knowledge and ability in respect of Microsoft Office systems. (Advanced knowledge of Excel formula would be useful).
- Self-motivated, eager to learn and to keep up to date with industry trends and market conditions
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work as part of a team and within a collaborative environment;
