Job description: Our client, a specialty P& C Insurance company is seeking a Financial Accountant – P& C Insurance to join their Finance department. This role reports into the CFO. Please note that this is a hybrid role downtown Toronto.

**ALL applicants must have strong Insurance accounting experience (P& C preferred but will also consider Life and Reinsurance).

The Financial Accountant is accountable for preparation, analysis, and reporting of financial information to internal management, regulators, and home office (UK). The Financial Accountant is also accountable for the integrity of financial data and ensuring that the company’s accounting policies and procedures conform to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Snapshot of the Role (not limited to):

– Prepare, analyze, and report the monthly income statement aligned with business needs.

– Ensure that all policy transactions are processed in the system and complete all premium related reporting.

– Assist in preparation of reports for management meetings.

– Provide external auditors with the information required for the interim and year end audits.

– Process required manual entries for the month end closing including fixed assets depreciation, lease payments, accruals, and prepaid and reinsurance premiums.

– Responsible for maintenance of fixed assets balances.

– Prepare and report regional analysis of accounts receivable balances, detailing brokers with overdue balances.

– Prepare monthly ageing and analysis of the brokers’ accounts receivable balance and complete monthly credit management report to home office.

– Prepare premium, commissions, broker receivables and reinsurance pages for quarterly and annual P- Complete reinsurance exhibits for reinsurance broker.

– Maintain reports by individual Cat event and split IBNR by individual reinsurer.

– Complete and analyze P- Maintain reinsurance contracts repository.

– Tax accounting

Your Key Qualifications:

· University Degree in Finance, Business, Economics etc.

· CPA Designation or near completion.

· 3+ years of work experience in the P& C Insurance, Life insurance or Reinsurance industry performing similar duties.

· Big 4 experience auditing P& C clients preferred.

· Clear understanding of IBNR and general knowledge of IFRS 17 and OSFI Reporting.

· Advanced Excel (VLOOKUP, Index Match) and Word skills. Microsoft Dynamics nice to have.

· Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
