    Job description: The Founding Head of BTS Spark Canada will be responsible for spearheading the growth of BTS Spark to enable Canadian school leaders to be able to access world-class coaching at not-for-profit prices. In order to achieve this, he/she will reach out to his/ her network of contacts across Canada, advise school districts and provinces on how to support their school leaders and build their leadership pipeline, and broker coaching programs in order to build a viable educational leadership practice for BTS Spark in Canada. BTS Spark Canada will challenge the current way that education leaders receive professional development, by offering more flexible, just-in-time targeted programs of leadership development and coaching. The Head of BTS Spark Canada is responsible for managing the operations of BTS Spark Canada, growing the coach community and managing the finances.

    Key relationships:

    The Founding Head of BTS Spark Canada will build strong relationships with our associate Canadian coaches and facilitators who will deliver our programs (in both English and French) to Canadian school leaders. He/ she will work closely with the Program Manager for BTS Spark North America who is responsible for end-to-end project management of our leadership development and coaching programs in both the US and Canada. He/she will be an active member of the BTS Spark Regional Heads’ team (meeting monthly) and the BTS Spark global team (meeting quarterly). He/ she will collaborate especially closely with our Co-Heads of BTS Spark America – Alyssa Gallagher and Sean Slade. He/ she will draw on occasional support/ advice from BTS Spark’s learning designer, graphic designer and head of marketing. He/ she will draw on BTS Canada and BTS US support for finance, invoicing, insurance, HR and legal support, as needed.

    Business development and networking to build a client base (approx. 60% of time allocation)

    • Reaching out to your professional network of superintendents, school district administrators, senior education leaders and principals to explore how BTS Spark can address painpoints and meet professional development needs of local school leaders.
    • Deploying marketing initiatives (such as webinars, article writing, conference keynotes and social media) to build brand awareness of BTS Spark Canada as both an educational leadership thought leader and a professional coaching provider for school leaders, in order to generate business opportunities from new leads.
    • Developing proposals to meet identified needs of prospective clients and encouraging them to commit funds to launch Spark programs.
    • Growing BTS Spark Canada into a sustainable, financially viable operation, coaching thousands of school leaders every year.

    Forging partnerships

    • Brokering strategic partnerships with professional associations and other national organizations, to offer coaching to their member networks or as an integrated part of their wider programs.
    • Maximizing the relationship with our wider company, BTS, and BTSers in our Toronto office.

    Designing and delivering programs

    • Adapting current learning designs and blending leadership mindset modules to create customised coaching or workshop programs to meet client needs.
    • Getting involved in the direct delivery of programs (such as facilitation of workshops after suitable training), especially where it is strategically advantageous to do so to nurture a client relationship, fill a delivery gap or bring in income to support other work.
    • Ensuring BTS Spark Canada has effective program management support in place.
    • Working closely with program management staff to ensure that program participants receive quality service and that coaching engagement remains strong.
    • Collaborating with clients to evaluate programs to measure the impact on participants’ leadership practice, their relationships and ultimately their schools.
    • Developing ‘trusted partner’ relationships with clients, rooted in a deep understanding of their needs and a track record of delivering quality programs – ultimately paving the way to deliver multiple, sustained programs over time.

    Creating a sustainable educational leadership practice

    • Developing and monitoring an annual budget for BTS Spark Canada and reviewing the rate card of program fees and coach fees.
    • Establishing regular targeted communications for Canadian school leaders, including a BTS Spark Canada website, geotargeted posts from BTS Spark LinkedIn and informational emails to our list of Canadian superintendents.
    • Ensuring effective management and tracking of all reachouts and meetings with client contacts via our Hubspot contact relationship management system.
    • Working with the local Coach Community Leader to identify a core team of English- and French-speaking Canadian coaches/ facilitators with passion and skills to work with education clients, and building up this coach team’s understanding of the education sector context and their ability to upsell.
    • Recruiting 1-2 new Canadian coaches with past professional experience as a school principal/ superintendent.
    • Building a loyal following of ‘alumni’ participants over time, who may be interested in engaging in further programs.

    Any other reasonable duties

    • Contributing to the global BTS Spark practice, its strategy, marketing and thought leadership around educational leadership.
    • Covering for colleagues as required.
