    We’re looking for our next Specialist, Casualty, Commercial Underwriting. Could It Be You?

    Under the direction of the AVP of Munich Re Canada Corporate, the Casualty Underwriting Specialist is responsible for the marketing and underwriting of excess casualty insurance, directly with brokers and intermediaries. This role is based out of our Toronto office.

    • Underwrite and price moderately to highly complex business in accordance with company guidelines, appetite and philosophy and within the limits authorized by the Head of Department.
    • Assesses and approve risk changes on existing accounts.
    • Demonstrate superior negotiation skills, facilitating and managing the complexities and challenges associated with sourcing business.
    • Provide information, guidance and advice to Brokers & Clients, including alternative solutions when appropriate.
    • Review and approve policy wordings with recommendations on any noted deficiencies brought to the attention of the Broker.
    • Market the products, capabilities and services of the department across Canada to support achievement of department goals.
    • Keep current on systems, underwriting rating tools and underwriting guidelines.
    • Provide coaching and mentoring support to team members.
    • Prepare reports as may be required.
    • Analyze corporate portfolio and advise of ways to improve efficiency and opportunities.
    • Represent Corporate F&C Canada in working groups and expert networks, as appropriate.
    • Participate in developing risk appetite and underwriting strategies for casualty business.
    • Monitor market conditions and activities of existing and potential Clients and competitors.
    • Prepare and deliver seminars for our Brokers and/or Clients.

    • First and foremost, you demonstrate a natural desire to provide exceptional client service through their energy, enthusiasm, and initiative.

    In addition, we are looking for the following qualifications:

    • Post-secondary education with a focus on business.
    • CIP/FCIP/CRM designation or progression towards would be an asset.
    • 5 to 10 years of experience underwriting excess casualty insurance preferably with a focus on large industrial risks.
    • Prior experience with operational power, heavy manufacturing, energy, mining, construction and civil projects would be considered an asset.
    • Solid grasp of commercial general liability insurance products and wordings.
    • Previous experience with insurance business development and sales would be an asset.
    • Ability to build strong relationships with both clients and colleagues.
    • High degree of drive, self-motivation, continuing development and proven ability to work independently.
    • Strong analytical, negotiating and investigative competencies.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Strong collaboration and team building skills.
    • High degree of flexibility and adaptability to changing environment and situations.
    • Strong computer ability, specifically with MS Office Products
    • Ability and willingness to travel.
