About the role
We’re looking for an Intermediate Underwriter to join our growing Entertainment team!
The purpose of this position is to produce and underwrite new and renewal business to ensure that the Company maintains a profitable and sustainable book of business in accordance with Company underwriting and compliance guidelines.
What you’ll do here:
Essential functions and responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
Maximizes opportunities for underwriting profitable new and renewal business, as appropriate based on market conditions, by leveraging business relationships, product knowledge and underwriting philosophies
Executes underwriting strategy as determined by management – including portfolio management, self-audits of new and renewal business and maintain well-documented underwriting file
Ensure underwriting quality by reviewing eligibility, class fit, price, deductible, TIV, and losses to determine exposures
Demonstrates a good understanding of exposures and key coverage issues. Makes underwriting decision to accept, decline, or modify risks within underwriting authority.
Develops superior working relationships with producers to successfully promote achievement of mutual growth and profitability goals and to supply the appropriate products and services.
Handle Broker enquiries in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with Company business standards
Promote the Intact brand and understands where Intact can make a difference to help retain or obtain a customer.
Maintain & continually further knowledge of technical developments/changes in the entertainment insurance industry
Be very proficient in all our software applications (CCM, CLPSS, etc.) and any other software currently being utilized
Keep abreast of new technologies, procedures and guidelines within the company.
What you bring to the table:
Bachelor’s or college degree in business-related major or any combination of equivalent education and experience
Minimum 3 to 5 years in the insurance industry in an underwriting/support role
Commercial Lines experience desired; prior experience in entertainment industry preferred
Effective communication skills – including good verbal, written, mathematical and analytical skills
Ability to meet tight timelines and show consistently good judgement
Excellent attention to detail
Strong interpersonal skills
Focus on teamwork and collaboration
CIP designation/progression towards CIP designation preferred
Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset

Salary of the successful candidate will typically be positioned between the following range, taking into consideration a number of factors including prior experience, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, location and internal equity: $59,000.00 – $88,400.00
