The Opportunity: We’re looking for a Senior Analyst to join our Responsible Investing team.
Your role will be required to regularly perform essential duties on behalf of the company from your assigned Aviso office. Your role is considered medium flexibility, requiring you to work onsite 1-3 days per week at our office at 151 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON.
Reporting to the Director, Head of Stewardship, the Senior Analyst will focus primarily on conducting our proprietary Evaluations and advancing our Active Ownership program, while supporting research needs to help maintain thought leadership status for NEI within the Responsible Investing (RI) industry. The successful candidate will be a sector-lead (with a focus on industrials and resources) responsible for monitoring our portfolios for ESG risks and opportunities, evaluating companies for investment into our funds and undertaking engagement dialogues with high-profile companies on ESG issues.

What your day looks like:
- Analyze and research potential companies for investment and monitor existing holdings to ensure they meet our required investment criteria by identifying existing material ESG risks and anticipating, discovering and investigating emerging ESG risks and opportunities
- Develop key engagement strategies and participate in the identification of engagement themes for assigned sectors in collaboration with the team
- Conduct, as well as organize and lead or support, dialogues with senior executives and board directors at public companies regarding ESG risks and opportunities
- Provide recommendations and rationales for proxy voting proposals, as required, with the proxy voting team
- Build upon your sector expertise by undertaking a wide range of thematic, sectoral and company-specific research to maintain thought leadership status for NEI within the Responsible Investment industry
- Contribute to the preparation of internal and external briefings, minutes, reports, company correspondence, policy submissions, whitepapers and other written materials
- Provide sector insights and expertise to enhance our company evaluation methodology, proxy voting process and engagement strategies
- Support communications about our RI program as required
Requirements
Your experience and skills:
- 3+ years of relevant work experience in responsible investment and/or investment research or financial markets preferred or
- 5 years’ experience in a research function in business, government, academic or non-governmental organizations
- University graduate in related discipline preferred (business, sustainability, environmental sciences, engineering, accounting, finance)
- CFA designation an asset or working towards CFA designation; CPA, FSA Credential or Master’s degree an asset
- Strong research and analytical skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and written skills with the ability to explain complex ideas simply
- Intellectual curiosity and a demonstrated passion for responsible investing
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Fluent communication skills in English are required and bilingual skills in French are an asset
