    Job description: The Senior External Relations Advisor is a valued member of the External Relations and Partnership section. The Section develops a network of strategic partners who will be our allies in advancing our corporate outcomes and Edmonton’s reputation at home and in the world. We are responsible for creating purposeful external relations and partnerships to advance the City’s vision.

    The Senior External Relations Advisor will foster authentic, comprehensive and meaningful connections with external stakeholders to ensure connectivity and alignment on fundamental City decisions. In addition to providing services to internal stakeholders and holding ownership for a portfolio of key strategic relationships for the City, these roles will also manage projects and provide advisory services on key city-building projects. These roles require an in-depth understanding of needs, priorities and contributions of key stakeholders (internal and external), the ability to identify and nurture mutually beneficial opportunities, and be a broker and facilitator.

    With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

    • Create and implement strategies (including briefing notes, business cases and relationship plans) with an in-depth understanding of priorities, needs and perspectives of key stakeholders
    • Develop, analyse and propose solutions to emerging issues and opportunities
    • Support cross-functional departmental projects and teams to provide innovative and creative solutions to operational projects by understanding their external relationship needs and priorities
    • Develop and deliver external relations guidelines, processes, tools, and training to build resources, capacity and competency across the corporation
    • Steward and support resources across the corporation to develop and nurture meaningful relationships with key stakeholders and ensure alignment of processes to deliver quality advice and service
    • Connect and develop lasting relationships with key stakeholders and community partners by facilitating access and enabling them to become contributing partners
    • Participate in industry and external events / activities, represent the City, and support the development of internal and external partner-driven initiatives

    Qualifications

    • Education or applied knowledge in Political Science, Public Relations, Business or a related discipline
    • Progressively responsible experience working in an external relations capacity, with expertise in advanced level relationship building, strategy development, problem resolution, interpret policies and methodologies, and advanced facilitation and collaboration skills
    • Demonstrated leadership in strategy development
    • Strong personal and ethical brand
    • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing change, building organizational capacity and empowering resources to achieve tangible outcomes
    • Experience working in a fast paced, changing environment and to anticipate and respond to issues, and inquiries from senior leadership, in addition to strong risk management
    • Experience in establishing, fostering, and maintaining effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, external stakeholders, senior leadership
    • Strong facilitation and brokering skills
    • Strong written and verbal communication, alongside interpersonal skills to disseminate information and collaborate with stakeholders
    • Strong proficiency with Google applications and Microsoft Office Suite is required

    Salary: $43.943 – $62.776 (Hourly); $91,752.980 – $131,076.290 (Annually)
