    You will be responsible to provide leadership to a team of talented underwriters passionate about Equipment breakdown, including team and one-on-one leadership, training, employee development, and crafting strategies. As a leader, you will ensure that underwriting quality and service standards within the team meet and/or exceed corporate and Engineering branch objectives.

    We need you to help grow the commercial equipment breakdown insurance book of business through selective underwriting of new business, and renewal of existing business.

    Through the cultivation of outstanding Broker relationships and clients, we want to establish the best approach to meeting our production goals and building mutually profitable partnerships.

    You will be involved in the underwriting, assessment, and evaluation of new and existing commercial equipment breakdown accounts as necessary to assist the underwriting team.

    You motivate and guide the quality of underwriting. You conduct file reviews in accordance with governance standards as required.

    Building and delivering training seminars, conduct team huddles and provide specific training to the underwriters as per the need and to mitigate risk.

    • As a passionate and engaging leader, mentorship and development of our underwriters is key to our success, and involves performance reviews and development plans.
    • A good balance of departmental workflows and service levels will help to keep the teams motivated, and ensure optimum performance, also providing feedback and support to the branch Senior management as required.
    • With a designated team, your support with from a mentorship perspective will be aligned to the Aviva values.

    What you’ll bring

    • Minimum 8 years’ experience in commercial insurance underwriting risk in Equipment Breakdown.
    • Leadership experience and mindset are imperative to succeed, we need leaders who can have open and transparent conversations, and motivate a team through teamwork.
    • Good business insights and real passion for relationship management.
    • Excellent underwriting skills with knowledge of rating and risk selection.
    • Ability to develop strong business relationships, externally with brokers, clients, and internally with other areas of Aviva (e.g. commercial lines branches).
    • Strong organizational skills showing attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
    • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
    • Be a role model
    • Prior experience leading people is a big advantage
    • Experience with Aviva systems a huge plus
    • Post-Secondary education or equivalent practical experience
    • Successful completion of the Insurance Institute FCIP certification, or in progress is ideal
